Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
In Austria, a man has held his daughter captive in a basement prison for 24 years. He sexually abused his now 42 year old daughter on a daily basis for 31 years. The daughter conceived 7 children of her father 1 of which died at birth. While 3 children went to school normally, 3 others, now ranging in age from 5 to 19 years old, were also held captive in the basement prison from the day they were born. The terrible story unfolded after the 19 year old child was brought to hospital unconscious. Police describes the condition the daughter and children were found in as 'horrifying'.

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
This is horrible.
What is striking is that it happened in Austria again (after Kampusch last year). I wonder if there is a peculiar cause for that.

I'm glad they found them.
It does make me wonder how much of this type of thing goes on that we're not aware of. It's as horrible as Human Trafficking.

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
I want to know how his wife could be unaware of this if it has been going on for the last 24 years. How stupid is she?

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
They did report that the basement/cellar was sound proof. They also reported that this make-shift living quarters were built in the 1950s. I just highly doubt that it was, there were fairly new fixtures and walls down there.
The food that he took down there should've clued her in. Maybe the left overs of the family meals were dealt out so sparingly the wife didn't notice?
The authorities aren't releasing much at this time. There are a lot of unanswered questions that I'd like to know myself.

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
hang him. His poor daughter will NEVER get over the horrors shes had to ordeal, and all of her poor children will never forget whats happened, and how will they feel when the youngest of them come to understand where they are from and what their mother went through?
He should be hung, drawn and quartered.

Now the first images have begun to emerge of the series of rooms in which 73-year-old man Josef Fritzl says he imprisoned his daughter, and three of her surviving children, in a basement 50-60 meters square that he converted himself.

Okay, not only did he take some time make-shifting this place, but did he not own power tools that you could hear through the sound proofing? I still don't know how the wife wasn't at least suspicious.

I think she may have had her suspicions, but hardcore denial set in. Because she desperately did not want to have her fears confirmed, or even entertain thoughts that might be fearful, she simply did not see.
It is quite a common mechanism.

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
i have to agree with vautrin, i mean if you were married for goodness knows how long to a guy, youd hate it but you'd find certain things suspicious in that same circumstance, but would you ever really thing that your beloved husband would be doing something that disgustingly horrible?
You automaticaly disgard those types of thoughts when you love someone.
of course she could of known but done nothing about it, maybe he had threatened her and their lifes?

Re: Man holds daughter captive for 24 years
I don't think she was as innocent as it appears.
