Anyway, Fayebelle is right, keep the conversation professional, the personal stuff can wait until a later date. Make sure she understands that being a temp means your available as necessary with no exceptions. She could likely have had someone watch the child but I think she's just looking to have Christmas Holidays off and a lot of people bail out of work commitments this time of year, just look at how light traffic is.
I'd say have a serious talk with her about being available when she's needed and if she can't be then you'll have to find someone else.
