Alcoholics are in denial until they are ready to take the first step and admit they have a problem with alcohol. They will try and justify their drinking, try to create a reason to drink all the while denying they have a drinking problem.
Hubby's family all don't think they have a problem with drinking. They only admit to one that is an alcoholic, but the rest of them are not in their eyes. Truth is, they are alcoholics. The denying doesn't stop there either. Any crisis that comes up is better left untalked about and quiet. this way it doesn't exist.
This is all part of being an alcoholic. Once they admit the alcoholism to themselves, then everything falls into the reality of things.
