I can answer that question as I've been in many hospitals with my kids and seen the signs up.

If you were to come to Canada to have your baby, you'd still need to pay the bill. They might treat you if it was a dire emergency or if you were at a border town, they'd probably call the states side to come get you and you'd be treated there if you couldn't pay up front or have insurance.

Every province is different as far as coverage goes as well. In Ontario, where I live, we pay for nothing. We do have an excellent health care system. Visits to the doctors, surgeries, emergency services are all free of charge. We do have to pay for prescriptions or cosmetic surgery.

This is why I wouldn't live in the states as beautiful as the states is. The health care sucks there. you have to pay for every visit to the doctors. that could be extremely costly! I can't believe the price you have to pay to have a child! holy cow!!! My births were all free. Happy to be a canadian!
