Sad time for a friend
Yesterday I greeted my best friend B. for the first time in a few weeks, thinking she had returned from the vacation she had planned with her girlfriend L. (one of my other friends).
I was shocked to hear that the day of the vacation, as they were driving to airport, L's Dad phoned them to advise that L's sister had passed away in her sleep.
I just sat quietly reading as B. told me what happened. It was so very sad. The only thing I could think of, was how grateful I was that L. has B. there to help her through, what I can only imagien to be one of the hardest things in life to deal with.
Life is so very unfair.
I know there's not really much I can do, but today I gave B. some advice that I think is important for us all to remember in such a situation.
" If the world gives you a reason to smile and you do, don't feel guilty about it afterwards, it's okay to still feel happy at any given time, it's not a sign of disrespect."
That being said, I am fortunate to have never lost anybody I care about during my lifetime. And when I do, I'll undoubtedly ignore my own advice.
