That is appalling. A child that young should only be prescribed drugs like that as a last resort. The anti-psychotics inparticular should only be prescribed for signs of psychosis. You would have known she was very seriously mentally ill if they were necessary. There is a tendency to over-prescribe in the US generally. Many drugs have not had full clinical trials for children. I would explain that you feel the Doctor treated your daughter badly and ask for a referral to another Doctor.

Many people who have counselling will need no medication, they are not mentally ill. They just need help to work through their problems and get their lives back on track. As there is no suggestion that your daughter is in any way ill, the issue of drug treatment should not arise.
