No, I meant POTENTIAL Giant Leap Forward!
For every one user that had a bad experience like you did, I've found at least 2 or 3 that had positive experiences. I've actually considered this change for the last 2 years now and what finally put me over the edge was that my location is excellent (I'm almost sitting on a hub) and the pricing for an upgrade package that should outperform my cable (on paper) was slightly lower in price.
Unlike you, my cable experience has been horrid. I continually have intermittent blackouts and major peak hour slowdowns as well and I'm reasonably sure they throttle my bandwidth. Last night I hooked up my DSL router and even in the hours of 6 - 8 PM, the internet loaded the fastest it ever has for me and navigating all my regular haunts is now quicker as well.
The real test will come when I fly online with my 332 buds as the latency will certainly tell the tale.
I don't want to say that DSL is better than cable but in my area, the hubs aren't as overloaded as cable and the fact I have a hub close by is what sold it for me. Also, part of the package I purchased gets me a decent back up PC for free. BTW, I didn't get the package for the PC, the PC is what tipped the scales and finally helped me make the switch.
