Links are important but content is realy the king! If your content are **** any backlinks will not help you.

Most webmasters would disagree with you on this if your looking for PR. If you want good PR, all you need is one incoming link from a high PR site. In this case, content is not only irrelevant, it isn't even required. Oddly enough, most newer webmasters seem to focus on PR and high site rank with alexa.com instead of whats really important.
If your looking to place high in the SERPS then targeted keywords and keyword phrases are what gets you to page one. All the content in the world won't do you any good unless it backs up your sites focus (general theme) and is keyword heavy.
Lastly, session ID's and the variables that CMS' such as phpnuke place in the url makes it difficult for some spiders to index properly. You'll notice that any of our targeted keywords/phrases are all linked to the main page yet the forum content has far more keywords than any article I write.
This is one of the reasons for the eventual switch to vBulletin and vBSEO or some other form of static url re-write. This will help us hit more of our keywords and hopefully put us on page 1 in google on more than our current 3 or 4 search strings.
