i agree that companies today take it too far. but, you know, they do have to be very very careful because if someone wanted to, they can sue them for everything they have. discrimination and sexual harrassment is something that has to be enforced which i think is why they take it as far as they do. it's serious!
I wouldn't take anything to HR unless i was being sexually harassed and that would be after all attempts i made first for the person to stop. if he wouldn't stop, then i'd take it into hr. as far as using the f-bomb, that doesn't bother me. i don't find much to be offensive so things like that don't bother me and if i happen to overhear someone else's conversation, then i feel i deserve everything i hear. not an hr matter IMO.
but you do have the "whiners" in every workplace that love to cause crap.
