Just to keep you all in the know, I've decided to split costs on a dedicated server with coldblooded, the owner of
nukemods.com. I've known cb for close to a year now as I also staff at nukemods and believe him to be a trustworthy and reliable person.
The decision to move to a dedicated server did not come easily as it translates to a much higher financial responsibility on my part. Sadly, it has to be done in order for the sites to be responsive and reliable 24/7/365. The problem is that I'm tiring of paying out my rear for new webhosts that just can't provide the level of service I'm looking for. As of late, I've had up to 4 webhosts at any given time and none have been able to provide me with reliable and speedy service for extended periods of time.
Of course, moving to a dedicated hosting solution brings with it new challenges the largest being server security. Until such time as cb or myself is confident in our server managing abilities, we may look for an interim, 3rd party, server monitoring company to ensure we stay online and hacker safe. This also may translate to running automatic daily backups (in the form of cron jobs) which may greatly impact site/server load/speed.
Rest assured, any impact to individual websites will be announced prior to action being taken.
Lastly, sites may start migrating to the new server sometime mid-November so please keep your eyes on this topic for future updates.
