I guess it really depends on what each person perceives as the major problem. I truly think, if or if not a person believes in religion, that man is really not capable of governing himself. They can hide it in money and entertainment or talent, but in the end it seems much of mankind is just kind of floundering around without much end result direction. Everyone has to believe in something. Depending on government to regulate your life is a misnomer. That's called communism.

We have a society that is hell bent on believing in their own education or way of thinking....and in the end .... there isn't enough harmony in that to make it work. So yes, I think in the end mankind needs a God. So, it's not only a matter of believing, it's also a matter of realizing people need a moral compass.
