I live in an area that has lots of slugs (snails without the shell), and I don't think you can get rid of them. There are tactics to keep them away from plants you don't want them eating, but you have to accept the fact that they will be in your garden.

If you like winning battles, slugs and snails hate it when they get salt poured on them. They hate it so much that their skin curls back and they writhe in what appears to be pain. I'm doubtful that it's pain though, I'm not sure if they have a central nervous system.
