that would've never worked with me and my parents knew it.
I won't be that way with my kids. When they hit 20, not too many house rules left to abide by. I certainly wouldn't expect them to have chaperones wherever they go. that's just so unrealistic. If they're legal to drink, then nothing I can do to stop that either.
As a parent, there comes a time when you have no choice but to let go and let them live their lives.
My parents stopped telling me what to do before I was 20. They started to treat me like an adult when I was about 18, 19. They knew that telling me what to do so they went with the flow and I'm glad they did. That showed me some kind of respect and trust. That's when I started to respect my parents a little more.
