Thread hi-jacking and spamming
This is a topic that carries the same sensitive nature as politics in a web forum. Some people think it's pointless and annoying when a thread goes "off topic (hi-jacked)", and some, such as myself, see no harm in it.
Of course my views are not without there exceptions:
- do not hijack a thread of sensitive nature.
- do not hijack a thread where someone is asking a question that involves a serious answer.
- joking around with people you don't know in their own topic is pretty silly especially if you have no idea how that person will take your sense of humor.
I'm sure there's other reasons for it but they escape me at the moment.
My personal belief is that hijacking threads is something that happens and isn't worth getting worked up about. I also believe it is necessary sometimes as it usually lightens up a heavy topic and puts a smile on peoples faces.
I am worried about the adverse effects that thread hijacking can have though. I'm worried that some people may not register, post or be active in our forums because they think the poor policing of hijacked topics is an indication of a website run by clowns. I assure you this is NOT the case which is why I'm giving everyone a say in the outcome of this ruling.
The poll is simple so can you all please vote and add a small post as to your feelings in the poll? No one will be judged as a result of there vote, I just want to see how everyone feels about the nature of this topic.
Also, I encourage visitors and non-members alike to add there vote and comments. The only way I'll be able to build a site catered for you is if you help me understand what you need.
Thank you all!
Sincerely,
ken
