I had a hard time to break it off with the family of my first love. I would call his mom and his sister wekkly at first then kind of weaned myself off until I didn't call them anymore. But, we had no kids.
If there are kids involved, I think it's only fair to the kids to keep some kind of contact so the kids don't feel like they've lost it all.
