Some counties in the US still have the school board running their bus systems...while others found it was more economical to contract it out to indipendent companies.
We have a shortage in our county which is why my daughter catches the bus at 6:20 AM for high school and my son doesn't get home until 4:45 PM from middle school. Neither schedule is very good.
As far as the quality of the bus drivers....it's a hit or miss I'm sure. My daughter's driver has had two fender benders this year while the kids were actually on the bus. I dont' think they were her fault though.
Beyond random drug testing ...what can a company really do to regulate their employees? It's a part time job and doesn't pay all that terrific.
