Is that because you travelled by road, and did not have a visa application or somthing? I can't see why being caught on a DUI would result in a permanent refusal of entrance.

Although admittedly, the US authorities were not too impressed with me the first time I visited the US. The second time they were a bit more impressed as I was one of the few Europeans who had filled out the Visa forms properly.
