Both sexes experience a change of life in some form when they are in their 40's and 50's. These changes are not necessarily the same for both sexes. Andropause is referred to as "Male Menopause" but there are a number of differences between men and women during this time in their lives regarding their hormones and their bodies.
There are definite similarities between the sexes when it comes to aging as well. Both experience a drop off in sex-related hormones as they age. In women, the gradual decrease and eventual stop in the production of estrogen and progesterone is what causes Menopause. This also marks the end of a woman's menstrual cycle. Some women will experience hot flashes, low sex drive, weight gain, irritability, and depression caused by both emotional and physical changes. Women also become higher risk for heart and cardiovascular disease at this point in their lives just as men.
There are also a number of differences between Andropause and Menopause.
A couple of these differences are that Menopause literally means the end of menstruation which has no counterpart in Andropausal men. Also, the drop off of hormone levels for women is much faster than for men. The decrease in testosterone levels is more gradual, happening over decades. The onset of Menopause is very short lived. As with everything, not all women and men will experience these things the same if they experience them at all. The only sure thing is that a woman will stop having a menstrual cycle.
